Compression of Bursty Signals Using Time Encoding Modulator


In this paper, time encoding scheme is used in order to compress the analog input signal for transmission through a digital channel. Time encoding is a system which converts amplitude information of the analog signals to a time sequence. Level-Crossing (LC) sampling is a common system which is used as a time encoding scheme. The output of a LC sampler is nonuniform samples. In this work we use asynchronous sigma-delta modulator (ASDM) for converting an analog signal to digital values. ASDM is a conventional SDM which uses a LC sampler instead of an ordinary quantizer. We will show that by using synchronous version of these asynchronous systems, we can compress the outputdigital value of the converter.
