Image Noise Removal Approaches: A Review


Digital image could be corrupted by any type of noise during image acquisition and transmission. The removal of noise from the image still remains a fundamental problem in the field of image processing. The image noise removal approaches should effectively suppress noise while keeping together the desired image features such as edges, texture, and fine details. There have been several published algorithms and each algorithm has its assumptions, advantages and limitations. This paper presents a review of conventional and advanced approaches for removing single and mixed noise. An analysis for each approach also provided.
