Comparing Exchanger Types


The preferred construction for an application might be a shell-and-tube unit, a double-pipe design, or a plate exchanger. The most economical unit is apt to be determined by the design pressure or the design temperature. They differ for each design. An estimate, based on experience, is that 80% of exchangers operate at pressures under 300 psi. Sometimes a quick estimate is needed to decide which exchanger to select.
