Evaluation Method on Key Indicators of Video Surveillance System on-site

An evaluation method of image quality of a video surveillance system is proposed. A test card is designed to evaluate two key indicators which are image definition and coverage range. As an important technical defense means, video surveillance systems have widely been built in important areas to finish many functions, such as security monitor, record and active alert. However the practical use effect is not satisfactory because most of the evaluation methods are developed to evaluate camera performances at laboratory environment. When cameras have been installed on-site, those evaluation methods cannot be work. The test card and related evaluation method proposed in the paper combine the objective and subjective method of image definition evaluation method. They have been used in airports and achieved desired results.
