Boilers must be properly removed from service to minimize adherence of suspended solids to boiler metal surfaces. Suspended solid adherence can be reduced by immediate flushing with hot, pressurized water, while waterside surfaces are still moist. A boiler containing deposits that formed during operation or because of improper removal from service may require chemical cleaning at some time during the outage period.
