Chapter 5
Effects and Treatment of Fossil Fuel Combustion Products

The products resulting from the burning of fossil fuels consist of various compounds, particularly NOx, SO2, and CO2, which cause acid rain and contribute to global warming problems. During coal combustion, abundant coal ash is generated, adding to the already complicated environmental problems. This chapter discusses acid deposition and global warming problems. It explains also how coal ash is treated.
