Numerical Study on the Effect of Turbulence and Cavitation Model for Propeller Induced Hull Pressure Fluctuation

Excerpt

In this paper, the effect of turbulence and cavitation model is investigated to predict the propeller induced hull pressure fluctuation accurately. Experimental cavitation test results are also presented in order to assess the suitability of turbulence and cavitation models. Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) and detached-eddy simulation (DES) approaches are adopted as a turbulence model, and Schnerr-Sauer and classical Rayleigh-Plesset model are considered as a cavitation model. Based on various numerical tests, it is demonstrated that the hull pressure fluctuations for marine propellers are less influenced by turbulence and cavitation models.
