Diagonal Loading Level Estimation Based on Subspace


The Capon beamformer usually uses the diagonal loading approach to improve the robustness. However, the main shortcoming of the diagonal loading approach is that there is no easy and reliable way of choosing the loading level. In this paper, we construct a cost function based on the noise and signal subspace, which is a convex problem, and can be solved by CVX program. Based on our cost function, we can choose the appropriate loading level easily. Using the appropriate loading level, the proposed robust capon beamformer can be efficiently computed at a comparable cost. Its excellent performance for SOI power estimation is demonstrated via a number of numerical examples.
